We are always trying to place students into small collaborative groups in order to further their understanding of math concepts.

We use a lot of scaffolding techniques at my school for math.

This quote makes me feel very hopeful for my students. It makes me feel that anyone can build upon prior knowledge.

I try to build upon my students schema when introducing new math topics in the classroom.

Stages of development are important to know for being a teacher and a parent.

The four areas of knowledge are important, it just feels like a test question waiting to happen.

I think understanding the steps of operant conditioning are important to understand.

I found this quote very interesting because, I like the merger of biology and psychology.

I remember learning about behaviorism when I was working on my Psychology degree. What I remember most was that modern day Casio's are based on "Skinner boxes"

“Cognition is a global term that seeks to cover all of the mental activities that serve the acquisition, storage, retrieval and use of knowledge. Cognition is the ability of the brain to think, to process and store information and to solve problems” (Page 30)

“Another aspect of situated learning, which is more relevant here, is the notion that learning can be situated in social and cultural settings and that, if a learning activity falls beyond the cultural understanding of the learner, then learning is likely, at best, to be less successful than if it had been situated in a more familiar setting.” (Page 29)

Scaffolding is the process of giving support to learners at the appropriate time and at the appropriate level of sophistication to meet the needs of the individual.” (Page 27)

“The zone of proximal development is a theoretical space of understanding that is just above the level of understanding of given individual. It is the area of understanding into which a learner will move next”. (Page 27)

“Social constructivism gives a high priority to language in the process of intellectual development. Dialogue becomes the vehicle by which ideas are considered, shared and developed.” (Page 27)

“There is no limit to the number of connections within a schema that might be made, and there are no restrictions on how schemas might link and interconnect with other schemas.” (Page 24)

Schema “we can describe it as a theoretical multidimensional store for almost innumerable items of knowledge or as a framework with numerous nodes and even more numerous connections between nodes.” (Page 23)

“Piaget’s view is influenced by his background in biology and he sees organisms, including human beings, as constantly seeking to maintain a stability in their existence.” (page 22)

Piaget’s stages of development: “Age 0-2 years (Sensorimotor stage), Age 2-7 years (Preoperational stage), Age 7-11 years (Concrete operational stage), and 11 plus years (Formal Operations stage).” (Page 21)

The four areas of learning are: "knowledge, concepts, skills, and attitudes." (Page 19)

The steps in operant conditioning "reinforcement, positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, and shaping" (Page 4)

"Behaviorism is based upon the simple notion of a relationship between a stimulus and a response, which is why behaviorist theories are often referred to as 'stimulus-response' theories (Page 2)
